Universal Information Architecture of Acoustic Music Instruments

چکیده

The information architecture of acoustic music instruments is described. As contemporary acoustic research has not yet covered all the possible materials, shapes, designs, and other essential properties of possible acoustic instruments, the model proposed in this chapter serves as a high-level analysis with meta-level XML-based markup elements and attributes. The ultimate design goal of the proposed model is to be able to create a software synthesis application that could recreate the acoustic sounds of music instruments faithfully, as well as the ability to create novel acoustic sounds using virtual music instruments. It is proposed that algorithms be created, which might lead to more realistically sounding instruments, as well as creating totally new sounds based on the properties of acoustic instruments, even the virtual creation of new types of acoustic instruments that would be impossible to build with real materials. It is further proposed that the properties of different components serve as modifiers on a base soundwave. Modifiers include the materials used in the construction of instruments, energy sources, dimensions of 3D acoustic cavities, and relationships between instrument components are considered. The properties of a wide range of musical instruments have been considered, ranging from ancient acoustic instruments to modern ones, as well as including the instruments of many music cultures. Following on a logical analysis and synthesis of previous research rather than acoustic lab results, a high-level generic and universal model of the information architecture of acoustic music instruments is constructed.

Audio signal Driven sound synthesis

A new approach to computer music instruments is described. Rather than sense control parameters from acoustic instruments (or non-acoustic instrument controllers), the sound of an acoustic instrument is used directly by a synthesis algorithm, usually replacing an oscillator. Parameters such as amplitude and pitch can control other aspects of the synthesis. This approach gives the player more co...

Architecture, City and Mathematics: The Lost Connection

The connection between architecture and science and sound based on mathematical relations has continued to develop[ since the rise of the Western classical civilization that originated in Ancient Greece. The mysterious Pythagorean cosmology pursued as secret esoteric knowledge was related to the search of rhythm, proportionality and harmony. Even somewhat earlier, Greek mysteries were based on ...

Active Acoustic Instruments for Electronic Chamber Music

This paper presents an ongoing project for augmenting acoustic instruments with active acoustics. Active acoustics are defined as audio-rate vibration driven into the instruments physical structure, inducing air-borne sound output. The instrument’s acoustic sound is thus doubled by an electronic soundscape radiating from the same source. The article is centered on a case study on two guitars, o...

Improvisation Based on Relaxation of Imitation Parameters by a Robotic Acoustic Musical Device

A new approach to musical improvisation based on controlled relaxation of imitation parameters by a robotic acoustic musical device, is presented in this paper. The presented RObotic Musical Instrument “ROMI”, is aimed at jointly playing two instruments that belong to two different classes of acoustic instruments and improvises while assisting others in an orchestral performance. ROMI’s intelli...

A Framework for Music-Speech Segregation using Music Fingerprinting and Acoustic Echo Cancellation Principle

Background interference creates voice intelligibility issue for listener. This research work considers background music as interference for communication through smart phone in areas with loud background music. This paper proposes a novel framework for background music segregation from human speech using music fingerprinting and acoustic echo cancellation. Initially, background music is searche...
